With
the introduction of its new IP-402+ print controller, Konica Business
Technologies, Inc. aims to break into such high-end printing markets
like central reprographics departments and print-for-pay businesses,
as well as provide its more traditional customer, the corporate
workgroup, with a host of innovative printing applications and solutions.
Historical
Winner - Konica!
-
Konica
was the first to launch a 50ppm digital printer copier in
1995. Konica has the largest connected install base of over
33,000 mid and mid/high range digital printers and printer/copiers
(40% connected).
-
Konica
has the most complete line of connected page/document printers
available today! Konica's current printer copier line is all
connectable TODAY!
-
Konica
has mastered contention issues on its entire product line
by allowing multiple users to take on printing and copying
tasks simultaneously.
-
Konica
designs and manufactures print controllers for the real world
office environment. While many products on the market today
offer low cost print options in the real world environment
from the workgroup to the enterprise, Konica's IP Series print
controllers are designed to maximize productivity and provide
scalability and flexibility. Making the wrong choice in controller
technology can significantly impact the productivity of the
users, which is a far greater cost than the entire system
cost of connected digital product.

New
Operating Architecture
The IP-402+ will drive the printing functionality for
the Konica 7040 and 7033 digital copiers; which were
introduced as standalone machines in May 1998.
Developed
by the California-based Konica System Technology Center
for worldwide distribution, the IP-402+ is based on
a completely new architecture, Konica's New Operating
Architecture (NOA). Employing a real time multitasking
operating system based on Wind River Systems' VxWorks®
platform, the New Operating Architecture allows Konica
to deliver its most innovative, flexible controller
to date. Due to the IP-402+'s modular design, new upgrades
and capabilities will be added to a Konica 7040 and
7033 without having to make major software modifications
first.
The
IP-402+'s multitasking, modular and scalable design
also will enable Konica to offer several value-added
technologies to be collectively known as DistribuTech™.
This series of applications will enable customers to
utilize the Internet or corporate intranet to distribute
and print documents on demand; thus reducing shipping,
mailing and facsimile charges.

Faster
Job Processing with 333 MHZ and RAM/Hard drive-based
Spooling
By combining the lP-402+'s multitasking architecture
with the high performance of the Intel 333 Mhz processor,
Konica has achieved a new benchmark in job processing.
The NOA enables the IP-402+ to handle system management
issues and printing commands simultaneously, resulting
in increased job processing power from the desktop that
can only be achieved through this exclusive, powerful
integration of Konica technology with Intel technology.
Using
Konica's unique Intelligent Print Job Manager, the IP-402+
is the first product in the industry to use both RAM-based
and hard drive-based job processing technology. This
premier technology reduces network traffic by transferring
jobs on the network to the IP-402+'s hard drive. Future
enhancements to the IP-402+ will allow users to view
and manipulate job spooling on the IP's hard drive,
to download fonts to the hard drive, and to achieve
significantly faster printing of mail merge documents.
Another enhancement, job mirroring, will enable customers
to recover a job that may have been lost due to loss
in power, accidental printer turn-off, etc.

 |
Processor
improved from an already leading edge 200Mhz to a blazing
333 Mhz
For larger or intense graphical print jobs users will
notice that the IP-402+ can build pages in memory faster
than previously available.
|
 |
RAM
memory catapulted to a minimum configuration power plant
at 512MB
Now
you can access more memory for the interpreter and more
memory for storing pages in the IP-402+ while the 7040/7033
is busy doing other tasks: |
| |
IP-402+
will have more power to pull pages off of the network
and reduce network traffic.
|
| |
IP-402+
will be enabled to rasterize and build more pages that
are "printer ready" and only need to be spooled
to the 7040/7033 when available.
|
| |
IP-402+
can be constantly RIPping pages.
|
 |
RAM
Memory moves from SIMM Format to DIMM (SDRAM) Style
SDRAM
(DIMM) is the newest and fastest memory available on
the market today. Faster processing speed means faster
handling of tasks. DIMM memory also does not need to
be added in pairs. DIMM memory is also the most popular
form of memory available on the market today which allows
us too provide very attractive prices.

Hard
Driver increased from 1.6GB to 2.0+GB
More
space to take on more workflow.
